Sally Mae reporting less student loan interest than actual interests paid?

I have a Sally Mae private loan currently in repayment. I have looked at my records and have noticed that I paid 3000 in interests yet when they mailed me the form, only 648 was reported to the IRS. Why? This does not make sense.
